Four engineers, one algorithm, the same incentives as you.
Tangent Medulla is a small team. We built CORE APEX in 2021, traded it on our own capital for 18 months before opening to subscribers, and still run the same algorithm with our own money today.
A trading algorithm is only as good as the people willing to put their own money behind it. That's the test we've held ourselves to from day one — and the reason the product exists in the form it does.
How we got here
The four of us met in 2019 working on execution infrastructure at a mid-sized quant desk. We left independently between 2020 and 2021, regrouped that summer, and spent six months building what became CORE APEX out of a shared dissatisfaction with two things: signal services that sold copy-paste trades with no accountability, and quant platforms that handed you a Python notebook and called it a product.
We wanted something between. An algorithm refined enough to be trusted with real capital — and a service wrapper that made it usable for anyone with a broker account and twenty thousand dollars or less.
The principles we don't compromise on
We trade what we sell. The same algorithm, the same parameters, the same broker connections — running on our own capital alongside every subscriber's account. Quarterly broker statements are the only honest answer to "is this real."
The price stays at $30. No tiers, no upsells, no performance fees. At $30 we cover infrastructure, the onboarding team, and the engineers; with margin to keep developing. Raising the price would change the incentive structure — we'd rather scale subscribers than ARPU.
We won't ship source. The algorithm is the product. A strategy that the entire subscriber base could replicate and tweak would decay within months. You receive signals and execution; the implementation stays with us. We compensate with quarterly methodology notes that explain what changed and why.
Four people, three time zones.
Remote across UTC −5 to UTC +1. We've worked together for five years and intend to keep it that way.
The short timeline.
First commit
Anya and Jonas write the prototype signal logic over a weekend. Backtests look promising. Real money is still a year away.
Paper trading
Three months of forward-tested paper trades through Interactive Brokers. We pause twice to fix execution bugs.
Real capital, our own
The four founders fund a $200k pool and start live trading. The first month is up 2.4%; the third draws down 6%. We don't change the rules.
First external subscriber
A former colleague pays $30 to try it. Lena handles the onboarding manually. The script we use to set it up becomes the basis for everything that follows.
100 active subscribers
The price stays at $30. We hire no one. Ravi joins full-time from a consulting engagement to take over research.
247 active subscribers
42 months of live performance. CAGR holds at +34.2%, Sharpe at 2.31. No missed signals in 2025.
